Editorial Policy

This policy describes how content on University Directory USA is produced. It exists so that readers can judge how much weight to give what we publish.

Last updated: 20 September 2026

Who writes here

Guides are written and edited in-house by the University Directory USA editorial team. Directory profiles are compiled by the same team from institutional sources. We do not publish guest posts, submitted articles or syndicated content, and we do not accept payment for placement of any kind.

Sourcing

Editorial content is checked against primary sources wherever one exists:

  • University admission, tuition and financial aid pages for institution-specific facts
  • U.S. Department of Education publications and databases for accreditation and federal aid
  • The Student and Exchange Visitor Program and the U.S. Department of State for student visa procedure
  • Testing organisations for examination format, scoring and policy
  • Accrediting agencies for accreditation status

Where a rule varies by state, by university or by programme, we say so explicitly rather than publishing a single figure that would mislead most readers.

Directory data

Every field in a university profile is an editorial estimate for orientation, not an official quotation. Figures are rounded, they describe a typical recent cycle, and they will drift as universities update their own numbers. This is stated on every profile and in our disclaimer, and each profile links to the official source so the reader can confirm the current figure in one click.

We deliberately do not publish a ranking. Ordering institutions by a composite score implies a precision that the underlying data does not support, and it encourages students to choose on prestige rather than on programme fit, cost and outcomes.

Review cycle

Guides are reviewed at least annually and whenever a rule they describe changes. Directory profiles are reviewed on a rolling schedule. Every page displays the date it was last reviewed. A recent date means the page was checked, not that nothing on it has changed since publication.

Corrections

We correct errors rather than quietly deleting them. Report an error to editor@universitydirectoryusa.com with the page and a link to the official source. Substantive corrections update the page and its review date; where a correction materially changes advice we have given, we note it on the page.

Advertising and independence

This site is free and funded by display advertising served by third-party networks.

  • Advertisers have no input into editorial content, into which institutions appear in the directory, or into how they are described.
  • No institution can pay for inclusion, position, or a favourable description.
  • We do not publish sponsored profiles, paid reviews or affiliate-driven recommendations.
  • Advertisements are visually distinct from editorial content and labelled as advertisements.

If we ever introduce affiliate links or sponsored content, they will be disclosed on the page where they appear and this policy will be updated before they go live.

Use of AI tools

We use software tools, including language models, for drafting support, formatting and consistency checks. Every published page is reviewed and approved by a human editor who is responsible for its accuracy. We do not publish unreviewed generated text, and factual claims are checked against the primary sources listed above rather than against a model's output.

What we will not publish

  • Guaranteed-admission claims, or any suggestion that a service can secure a place or a visa
  • Content from unaccredited institutions presented as equivalent to accredited ones
  • Immigration or financial advice tailored to an individual
  • Scraped or republished content from other publishers
