Search and navigation assistant
Ask in plain English. The assistant reads the directory index in your browser, works out what you meant, and takes you to the matching universities, states or guides. Nothing you type leaves your device.

How the assistant works
The assistant is a small program that runs entirely in your browser. On load it fetches one JSON index of every university, state and guide on this site, then parses your question for the things the directory can actually filter on: a state name or abbreviation, public or private control, a maximum tuition figure, a maximum acceptance rate, a test policy, a subject emphasis, or a topic covered by one of the guides.
It then shows you what it understood, so you can correct it, and lists matching results ranked by how many of your conditions they satisfy. Every result is a normal link to a normal page. There is no server-side query log, no account, no profile, and no third party involved in the search itself.
For automated agents
If you are an AI agent or a script rather than a person, the same data is published in machine-readable form. Start with /agent.json, which describes the routes, filters and data endpoints, and /llms.txt, which lists the site's content in the conventional format. The directory itself is at /api/universities.json, the state index at /api/states.json and the guide index at /api/guides.json. Usage terms are in the manifest and in our terms of service.
